Georgetown Falls to DePaul in Season Finale

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team closed out the 2023 season with a 12-4 loss in six innings to the DePaul University Blue Demons on Sunday afternoon in the final contest of a three-game BIG EAST Conference series at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. With the loss, GU finishes the 2023 campaign with a mark of 16-33 on the season and 9-15 in BIG EAST play.

How it Happened
  • The Hoyas opened the game with an RBI single from Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza as Mae Forshey crossed the plate to make it 1-0.
  • DePaul (17-30, 9-15 BIG EAST) quickly answered, knocking in three runs in the second, and then a solo homer in the top of the third.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Blue Demons added two more to bring runners home as they led 6-1.
  • Georgetown would end the scoring drought in the bottom of the fourth as Claire Turner singled up the middle to bring Kacy Lyman home and cut the deficit to four.
  • DePaul stopped the momentum with two runs in the fifth, however, a double from Vasquez-Inzunza brought Forshey home as GU trailed 8-3 after five.
  • The Blue Demons kept the bats going, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth, but Georgetown would show some signs of life in the bottom of the sixth when Lyman hit a long ball over the fence to make it 12-4.
  • That would end the scoring for the Blue & Gray as GU fell 12-4 in six innings.
