WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's women's golf team currently sits in first place at the 2023 William & Mary Invitational, a two-day, three-round tournament hosted by the College of William & Mary that concludes on Tuesday, September 12. With six of the seven Hoyas competing among the top 15 and all among the top 25, Georgetown is currently at 19-over 595 following 36 holes on the par-72, 6,000-yard course at the Kingsmill Resort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Playing as individuals, Georgia Ruffolo and Jiaying Lai share the best score for the Hoyas as they are both at 3-over 147 to be tied for third. Ruffolo shot a 75 in the first round and followed up with an even 72 in the second round. Lai had the best round of the day with a 1-under 71 in her first collegiate round of golf and followed up with a 76 in the second. Over 36 holes, Ruffolo tallied six birdies and a pair of eagles. Lai managed six birdies, including birdies on the second hole in both the first and second rounds.
- Morgan Smith is the top Hoya in the lineup following a pair of rounds as she sits at 4-over 148 (75-73) to be in a tie for sixth place. The freshman was steady in the first round with 13 pars and found her stride in the second round with a quintet of birdies.
- Megan Gormley is currently tied for 12th place following a pair of rounds at 5-over 149 (74-75). In the first round, Gormley couldn't find a rhythm on the front nine but managed a pair of back-to-back birdies on the back nine to account for four of her five birdies on the day.
- Vilda Westh Blanc is in a tie for 16th place at 6-over 150 with matching 75s in the first and second round. The freshman tallied a quartet of birdies over 36 holes with two in the first round and another two in the second round.
- Angela Lee is also tied for 16th at 6-over 150 (76-74) with six birdies to her credit. The sophomore managed three-straight birdies on holes 13, 14 and 15 in the first round.
- Claire Chen was the final Hoya golfer in competition, tallying a 9-over 153 (80-73). Despite a trio of birdies, Chen was streaky in round one before she was able to play a more consistent second round with a duo of birdies and 13 pars.
