Field Hockey Closes Out Season in Shootout Loss at Longwood

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team wrapped up its 2024 campaign with a 2-1 shootout loss at Longwood on Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas conclude the season 3-14 overall while the Lancers finish 5-12.

After a scoreless first half, the Hoyas found themselves on the board first after Ellie Johnson collected a rebound from an Elena Leahy shot and found the back of the cage in the 33rd minute.

Longwood responded six minutes later, converting one of its 14 penalty corners on the day to knot things up at 1-1.

In the shootout, Longwood missed its first two strokes while the Hoyas picked up a conversion from Elena Perez Alejandro on GU's second attempt. The Lancers were then successful on their next three attempts while the Blue & Gray didn't find the back of the cage again.

Bailey Tietz (1-3) had six saves in the loss.

Zoe Tierney scored the game-winner in the shootout while Ireland McDermott had the equalizer in the third quarter. Kinsey Waddell and Hunter-Paige Johnson were both credited with assists as well. Sophie Mooldijk had 10 saves for the Lancers.
