HARTFORD, Conn. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 79-44 to the No. 2 UConn Huskies in both teams' BIG EAST Conference opener on Sunday afternoon at XL Center in Harford, Connecticut. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 6-5 on the season and 0-1 in league play, while UConn improves to 9-1 on the year and 1-0 in the BIG EAST.
 
How it Happened

• The Hoyas kept it close in the first quarter as a triple from freshman Jaeda Wilson gave GU the small lead at the 7:25 mark.
• UConn answered back and held on to a small advantage throughout the stanza as the Blue & Gray battled to keep it close.
• Back-to-back 3-pointers from junior Victoria Rivera and senior Ariel Jenkins cut it to one, but UConn came right back with a triple of its own to make it 17-13 at the end of the first quarter.
• UConn opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run and never looked back as the Hoyas struggled to score.
• The home team would lead by as much as 23 late in the period, but a pair of free throws from Jenkins with one tick left on the clock made it 40-19 at the break.
• GU cut it to 19 early in the third quarter, but a 20-2 Husky run spanning much of the third put the game out of reach as the Hoyas trailed 64-29.
• The Blue & Gray would not find an answer in the fourth as the squad eventually fell 79-44.

Of Note

• Jenkins led the Hoyas with 12 points to go along with a squad-best nine rebounds.
• Wilson was also in double figures scoring 10 points and pulling down three boards.
• The Blue & Gray shot 26.3% (15-57) from the field, but allowed the Huskies 47.8% (32-67) shooting in the contest.
• Georgetown was outrebounded by UConn 42-37, and forced 10 Husky turnovers on six steals.
• Paige Bueckers scored 24 points as one of two Huskies in double figures.
