WASHINGTON - On the second day of the Purple & Gold Challenge, Georgetown softball fell to the host, Lipscomb, 13-4, followed by a 7-6 comeback victory over Murray State on Saturday, March 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Hoyas now hold a record of 8-10 on the season.

How it Happened

Kayla Dunn struck out two out of four Lipscomb batters in the first inning.

Georgetown would open scoring in the second. With two outs and Kayla Dunn on first and Maicie Levitt on second, Hollie Pardini reached on an error by the Lipscomb third baseman, bringing Levitt home for the first run of the game.

A single by Claire Turner at the next at bat would bring both Dunn and Pardini home, giving the Hoyas an early 3-0 lead.

Lipscomb would record a run in the bottom of the third. Georgetown prevented a Lipscomb run when they caught the Bison runner stealing home.

With bases loaded in the fourth, Gabby Park hit a sac fly, bringing Emily Strittmatter home to bring the Hoya lead back to three.

Lipscomb would take the lead after scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth, and tacked on another in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bison recorded six runs in the sixth, ending the game 13-4.

How it Happened

Murray State opened up the game with two runs in the first inning.

Georgetown answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. After Park and Dayanara Campos walked, Camryn Wincher hit a double bringing Park home. The next at bat, Levitt put the ball into play allowing Campos to come home from third to make it a 2-2 ballgame.

After a scoreless second inning, Murray State scored four runs in the third to give them a 6-2 lead.

GU was unable to score any runs in the fourth after having runners on first and third.

The Blue & Gray began clawing back in the fifth, starting when Brooke Rebhan hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to two.

With two outs later in the fifth, a single from Levitt and a double from Strittmatter gave the Hoyas runners on second and third. A passed ball from Murray State allowed Levitt to come home to cut the Racers' lead to one.

Dunn threw a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the sixth.

Wincher tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when she hit a single through the left side, bringing Park home from second.

Murray State threatened to retake the lead in the top of the seventh as they had bases loaded with only one out. However, the Hoyas escaped without allowing any runs after Dunn threw a strikeout and a pop up.

Strittmatter opened the bottom of the seventh with a double, putting the leading run on base in scoring position. A sacrifice bunt from Pardini advanced Strittmatter to third.

Gianna Sciullo earned the walk-off RBI after an error by the Murray State third baseman brought Strittmatter home, completing the comeback win.
