WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball fell 5-2 in game one and 7-1 in game two in their doubleheader against Villanova on Friday, March 22 in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The Hoyas are now 10-18 on the season and 1-7 in BIG EAST play while Villanova is 17-11 and 8-0 in league action.
Game 1
How it Happened

After a scoreless first inning, Villanova scored three runs in the second to put them in front.

In the third, Emily Strittmatter got on base for the second time and stole second, but was unable to be brought home.

The Wildcats added another run in the bottom of the third to put them up 4-0.

Avery Wissmar did not allow any Wildcat runners on base in the fourth.

Strittmatter hit a two out double in the fifth and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. However, the Hoyas could not bring her home.

Villanova added another run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Hoyas could not add any runs in the sixth inning.

Down 5-0, Georgetown tried to rally in the seventh.

Abby Kozo began the inning with a leadoff single. Then Brooke Rebhan hit a single up the middle which brought Kozo home for the Hoyas' first run.

Next at bat, Strittmatter tallied her third hit of the day, bringing Rebhan home for another Hoyas run.

The Hoyas were unable to get any more runs on the board, allowing for the Wildcats to take the game 5-2.

From the circle, Wissmar threw three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched while Kayla Dunn only allowed one hit in 1.1 innings pitched.

How it Happened

Neither team generated any offense in the first inning.

Georgetown took an early lead in the second after Kozo's infield single brought Camryn Wincher home from third.

Villanova would take the lead back in the bottom of the second with three runs of their own.

The Wildcats tallied two more runs in the third to give them a 5-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, Georgetown prevented Villanova from scoring any runs when they had the bases loaded as they ended the inning with a 1-2-3 double play.

After a scoreless fifth inning, The Wildcats would hit a home run in the sixth to increase their lead to 7-1.

Georgetown was unable to rally in the seventh, giving the victory to the Wildcats.
