WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball's late rally came up just short as the Hoyas fell 6-5 in the final game of the 2024 season to UConn on Saturday, May 4 at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The Hoyas finish the season with a record of 14-33 and 4-20 in BIG EAST play while UConn improves to a record of 30-22 and 16-8 in league action.
At the game, the Hoyas celebrated Senior Day. The Hoyas recognized Kiaris Alvarado Rojas, Maicie Levitt, Camryn Wincher and Julia Parker for their contributions to Georgetown softball.
How it Happened

In the top of the first inning, UConn threatened to earn some runs with runners on second and third. However, Levitt made a great throw from her knees to first base to get the final out and prevent the Huskies from scoring.

UConn opened the scoring with five runs scored in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second inning, a HBP by Levitt, a single from Abby Kozo and a walk from Wincher gave the Hoyas bases loaded with no outs.

A sac-fly from Gabby Park brought Levitt home, putting the Hoyas on the board.

Kayla Dunn threw two strikeouts in the third inning to keep the Huskies off the board in the inning.

UConn added a run in the fourth off a solo home run, making it a 6-1 ball game.

The Hoyas tried to rally with two outs in the fifth. A walk from Claire Turner and a hit by Emily Strittmatter put runners on second and third.

Up next at bat, Naya Campos hit the ball deep to right field, but the ball fell just short of going over the wall and went into the UConn outfielder's glove.

After a scoreless sixth, Georgetown recorded a 5-4-1 triple play in the top of the seventh.

Turner got the Hoyas going when her single up the middle brought Park home from second, cutting the deficit to four runs.

Later in the inning, Campos hit a three-run home run to center field, making it a 6-5 ball game.

A HBP from Levitt and a single by Kozo gave Georgetown runners on first and second with only one out, needing a run to extend the game. However, Georgetown was unable to keep the momentum going, allowing UCONN to take the game 6-5.
