Hoyas Fall in Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell to the Providence College Friars 66-62 on Saturday afternoon in the BIG EAST Conference finale at McDonough Arena. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 11-18 on the season and 4-14 in league play, while the Friars improve to 13-18 on the year and 6-12 in the BIG EAST.

How it Happened
  • Georgetown opened the contest with a triple from graduate student Siobhan Ryan, but Providence answered with a 14-0 run to take a commanding lead.
  • The Hoyas chipped away at the advantage, but still trailed 20-10 at the end of the first quarter.
  • A triple from freshman Khadee Hession and a layup from senior Ariel Jenkins began the second quarter, as the Blue & Gray would battle back.
  • From the seven-minute point on, graduate student Kelsey Ransom would take over and score 10 of GU's final 11 points of the half as the Hoyas trailed 32-27 at the break.
  • The duo of Ransom and Jenkins continued to keep it close in the third.
  • Looking at a nine-point deficit, freshman Jayden McBride knocked down three free throws, and Jenkins added a layup.
  • PC would answer with a late bucket as the Hoyas trailed 48-42 after three.
  • Down by eight with 5:24 remaining in the fourth quarter, a jumper from McBride sparked a 7-0 run to make it 58-57.
  • Providence would end the run, but Ransom answered right back with a jumper.
  • In the final two minutes, Hession was fouled on a 3-pointer and sank all three free throws to once again pull the Hoyas within one.
  • Georgetown got the stop, but could not convert on the other end and was eventually forced to foul resulting in the 66-62 decision.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way with 26 and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She also had four steals and was a perfect 6-6 at the line.
  • Jenkins added 10 points to go along with eight boards and two blocks in the contest.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 32.8% (21-64) from the field, but allowed the Friars 48.1% (25-52) shooting in the contest.
  • Georgetown outrebounded Providence, 37-31, and forced 18 PC turnovers on eight steals.
  • Grace Efosa led the way for Providence with 16 points as one of two Friars scoring in double figures.
