WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's women's lightweight rowing team concluded its home competition this past weekend, hosting the Wisconsin lightweight rowing team in the Wisco Duel in Fairfax Station, Virginia. Both teams raced the 2000m course on the Occoquan Reservoir, with Georgetown securing victory in one of the three races.
"This weekend we welcomed Wisconsin to the DMV and held the very first duel between the two programs. The day started with the Varsity 2x and showed some great competition across both teams. The Georgetown 2x ultimately came in 2nd to Wisconsin after a battle down the course. The second race of the day was the Varsity 4+'s. Wisconsin had a strong showing and although the Georgetown 4+ saw improvement from last weekend's racing, Wisconsin took the win with a bow deck overlap at the finish line. In the final event of the day we had the Varsity 8+'s come down the course. After a strong start, Georgetown's 8+ opened up to a length and a half of open water by the finish line, ending with a dominant win over Wisconsin. Today's racing helped us gain some insight into areas we can continue to improve upon across all lineups and we look forward to hitting the ground running with training this week. Next weekend we will head into our third race of the season as we attend the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River in New Jersey." - Varsity Lightweight Coach Abbey Piaget
