WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team fell 2-1 in a hard-fought BIG EAST showdown against visiting Temple on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 2-5 on the season while the Owls improve to 7-1.
Izzy Lee scored the lone goal for the Hoyas, cleaning up a rebound save off a penalty corner just 7:58 into the game to lead 1-0.
Temple responded 2:26 into the second quarter as Peyton Rieger collected a long pass into the circle from Halle Aschenbach and found the back of the cage to even the score at 1-1.
The Owls managed another early goal in the third quarter as Lucia Magro converted a give and go with Marsha Ariesen on a penalty corner to make it 2-1.
Georgetown mounted a strong comeback in the fourth quarter, pressuring the Owls the entire frame and outshooting their guests 7-1 in the period. The Hoyas had a late chance to tie things up and send the game to overtime on a penalty corner with 50 seconds remaining, but Temple's defense deflected GU's final shot out of scoring range.
Ella Fahey and
Alex Duff once again split halves between the pipes with both goalies collecting two saves on the day.
Alex Lepore had eight saves in the win for Temple, including five in the fourth quarter.
