Field Hockey Weathers Storm, Tops Colgate in OT

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey returned to its winning ways with a 1-0 overtime victory against visiting Colgate through heavy downpours on Sunday afternoon in the Nation's Capital. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 5-9 on the season while the Raiders fall to 4-7.

Katherine Malloy netted the game-winner in overtime courtesy of an assist from Laney Reiser.

In goal, Alex Duff (3-6) collected four saves in the win.

Battling both the Raiders and the remnants of Hurricane Isaias, the Hoyas outshot Colgate 9-1 in the first half and 11-3 through the first three quarters of play but couldn't find the back of the cage. The Raiders flipped the script in the fourth, outshooting the Hoyas 4-1 and being awarded five penalty corners in the frame, but were turned away at every attempt to push the game into extra time.

In the extra frame, Georgetown controlled the field the majority of the period but a stellar save from Duff on Colgate's lone offensive threat pushed the Hoyas into transition which led to Malloy's goal. Reiser split defenders just beyond midfield and slid the ball to Malloy who then beat the Colgate keeper to the right post to seal the victory.

Kennedy Glinn had three saves for the Raiders in 33:39 of action, playing the first half and returning for overtime. Marissa Buck held the Hoyas scoreless for the entirety of the second half.
