Georgetown Softball Defeats Iona, Falls to Lafayette on Day Two in Wilmington

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team played their second day in Wilmington, North Carolina with games versus Iona and Lafayette. The Hoyas won 7-0 in game one downing Iona, before dropping their second game 7-5 to Lafayette
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
  • The Hoyas got on the board first in the second inning with singles from Gabby Park, Hanna-Mae Legaspi and Taylor Francis that led to two runs scored.
  • In the fifth inning, the Hoyas continued to dominate, starting with a double by Brooke Rebhan and a single by Abby Kozo that scored two runs for the Hoyas. Dayanara Campos then homered, bringing in another two runs. The Hoyas ended the inning up 6-0.
  • In the seventh inning, the Blue & Gray capped off its lead with a home run by Emily Strittmatter and the Hoyas took the 7-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
  • Lafayette scored first, tallying three runs in the third inning and another three in the fourth inning.
  • The Hoyas rallied in the sixth inning, scoring three runs off doubles by Campos and Rebhan and a single by Devyn Johnson.
  • Lafayette responded in the bottom of the sixth, adding another run and ended the inning up 7-3.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Hoyas fought for two more runs off a stolen base by Claire Turner and a single by Kozo, but came up short to lose 7-5.
UP NEXT
  • The Hoyas will end the weekend in Wilmington on Sunday with a contest against UNCW. Next week, the Hoyas face off against Drexel at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex in the team's home opener.
