WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's women's tennis team (6-8, 3-2 BE) defeated the University of Connecticut 4-3 on Thursday at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland.
Despite falling into an early hole on court one in doubles play, the Hoyas captured wins on courts two and three to earn the point.
Julia Chu and
Ruhika Bhat Bhat defeated UConn's Victoria Matos and Madison Mcleod, 6-3, while
Katie Garofolo-Ro and
Emily Novikov picked up a 6-4 win over Isabella Asenov and Cameron Didion.
Ruhika Bhat opened singles action with a dominant straight-set victory against Madison Mcleod on court five, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Paige Gilbert followed suit on court six, defeating Isabella Asenov 6-1, 6-0 to give the Hoyas a 3-0 lead.
UConn quickly answered back as Cameron Didion captured the Huskies' first point of the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over
Ashley Kennedy on court four. On court two, Chloe Lomans secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory over
Julia Chu, bringing UConn closer to a 3-2 match score.
The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week,
Katie Garofolo-Ro, would clinch the win for the Hoyas on court three, winning 7-5, 6-4 against Victoria Matos. UConn's Ela Platenikova wrapped up the match with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, three-set win on court one against
Emily Novikov.
