WASHINGTON – The No. 9/13 Georgetown University men's soccer team needed a career night from junior
Jack Brown to defeat the University of Evansville Purple Aces, 3-2, on Monday evening at Shaw Field. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 7-1-1, while the Aces drop to 1-5-2 for the season.

- "You can prepare a team as much as you want for a game like this on a Monday when you know there won't be a big crowd. You've started conference play, but this is out of conference so you know this is going to be the biggest mentality test you've had all year. Compound that with Evansville playing really well and it's a tough game. A ton of credit has to be given to them. I thought they played a fantastic match and, to be honest, were pretty unlucky not to end up with a tie in the last 10 minutes. A lot of it for us was just getting the guys to handle some of the details we talk about on a daily basis. In the second half, they applied themselves a little better, even though they conceded a goal again early in both halves. I think the positive to that is that we responded to those things without panicking and found a way to get a win."
How it Happened
- Evansville stunned the Hoyas with a goal in the fourth minute of action when a corner was headed out, but went right to the foot of Alejandro Fernandez who fired it back to make it 1-0.
- Georgetown brought it back to even in the 18th minute when a shot from junior Aidan Godinho was blocked, but Brown controlled the rebound and found the back of the net to knot it at one apiece.
- The second half started just like the first as a ball sent in resulted in an Aces goal in the 51st minute, putting Georgetown on its heels.
- Brown played the hero in the 65th minute when he dribbled through traffic at the top of the box and fired with his left foot. His shot sailed past the Evansville keeper to tie the game once again.
- The Hoyas heated up and found the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute. Senior Eric Howard sent in a beautiful ball that pulled the keeper out. Sophomore Noah Satriano shot from close range, and it was saved by an Aces defender. However, the rebound went to senior Matthew Van Horn whose shot was right on target to put the Blue & Gray ahead 3-2.
- The final 10 minutes saw the Aces press for the equalizer, but it would never materialize and GU held on for the 3-2 victory.
Of Note
- Georgetown and Evansville both managed 12 shots, and GU had six on goal to the Aces' five.
- The Hoyas managed four corners in the game, while Evansville tallied nine.
- Junior Charlie DeMarco played all 90 minutes with three saves to his credit.
- Brown's brace marked the first two goals of his career on the Hilltop.
