Black Student-Athlete Coalition

BSAC - Spreading Awareness - Advocacy - Community

The Black Student-Athlete Coalition was created as a platform to elevate Black voices within the Georgetown athletics community. The coalition was formed in the context of the recent acts of racial violence which remind us of the deep-rooted issues that have plagued our nation for centuries. The sentiment of these movements fighting for equity and justice ultimately served as a catalyst for us, the Black student-athletes of Georgetown, to take action towards improving the experience of athletics for Black athletes to come. As students attending a predominantly white institution during uncertain times, the Black Student-Athlete Coalition ensures that our experiences are validated and recognized by our non-Black teammates, coaches, and administration. Through our efforts, we have the potential to improve the experience of Black athletes well beyond athletics. Too many of us have been isolated or silenced within our respective teams, but together, we have been empowered to speak out about the hardships we face. It is now time for the non-Black members of our community to truly listen and to ultimately become our allies in the fight for equality. The Black Student-Athlete Coalition will be an organization dedicated to enhancing the collegiate experience of both incoming and returning Black student-athletes through the creation of a welcoming family environment. This will be a place where Black culture can be appreciated and celebrated. We as athletes, but more specifically as Black athletes, wield significant influence in our community. Therefore, we have a duty and an unprecedented opportunity to bring awareness to and make a difference within the Black community. Our coalition stands for Justice, Change, and Equality. These values drive us to better the Black student-athlete experience at Georgetown as well as the experiences of the Black community throughout all of Washington, D.C. Stand with us to make the change that has been long overdue.
