Alex Kolt joined Georgetown's coaching staff in 2011. He switched sides of the ball to coach the offensive line in the spring of 2017.
In 2021, Georgetown ranked third in the conference in total offense, recording 333.7 yards and 19.0 points per game.
In his first three seasons with the offensive line, the unit has improved drastically each year. The Hoyas nearly doubled their rushing totals from 2017 to 2018 before leading the Patriot League with 147.4 rushing yards/game and 20 rushing touchdowns in 2019. The offensive line also allowed a league-low 19 sacks in 2019.
Kolt's defensive line was a strength for the Hoyas in his four seasons with the unit. In 2016, Georgetown ranked third in the Patriot League, allowing 155.8 rushing ypg. Phil Novacki ranked fifth in the league with 6.5 sacks, while Hunter Kiselick and Khristian Tate both earned All-Patriot League honors. Kiselick was also named to the All-Patriot First Team as a special teams non-specialist as he led the country with four blocked field goals, part of a field goal block unit that Kolt led.
In 2015, Kolt guided first-year starters Novacki and Bryan Jefferson to strong seasons, while coaching Brennen Sawicki to a strong freshman campaign, as he earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after his performance against eventual league champion Colgate.
Alec May turned in an All-America campaign in 2014, leading the nation and breaking a single-season program record with 16.5 sacks. Jordan Richardson additionally earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors for the second time.
In 2013, May and Richardson were both named to the All-Patriot League Second Team. Richardson recorded a career-high 12 tackles-for-loss, while May's 7.0 sacks was among the Patriot League's top 10. Richard Shankle also posted a career high with 9.5 tackles for loss.
Kolt began his time on the Hilltop as the offensive line assistant and tight ends coach for the 2011-12 seasons. In 2012, Kolt assisted in coaching the offensive line while also working with tight ends, special teams, defensive scout teams and breaking down film. Under Kolt, tight end Daniel Sprotte emerged as a receiving threat within GU's offense, finishing fourth on the team with 15 receptions for 134 yards. The offensive linemen helped the squad improve the rushing attack by more than 48.0 ypg. In his first season in 2011, Kolt helped Tucker Stafford complete his transition from quarterback to tight end, as Stafford led the team's tight ends with 10 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Kolt joined the GU coaching staff after playing four seasons as an offensive lineman at Hampden-Sydney College. He helped the Tigers to conference championships in 2007 and 2009, finishing No. 14 in the nation in 2009. Kolt was also a three-time Academic All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
An Arlington, Va., native, Kolt graduated with a B.A. in history and a minor in rhetoric in 2010 and earned a master's of education in sports leadership in 2011 at Hampden-Sydney. He currently resides in Alexandria with his wife, Nicole.
