Biography

Kevin Mapp was named outside linebackers coach at Georgetown University in June 2011. At Georgetown, Mapp will be responsible for coaching outside linebackers within defensive coordinator Rob Sgarlata[apos]s defense. Mapp comes to the Hilltop from Coastal Carolina where he served during the 2010 season. Mapp spent three seasons from 2007 until 2010 at Hofstra, where he was promoted to defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator in January 2009 after serving as defensive ends coach in 2008 and defensive assistant in 2007. Under his direction in 2008, the Pride defensive ends recorded 95 tackles and six sacks. Prior to Hofstra, Mapp worked at Marshall University, as a defensive graduate-assistant from January 2007 to July 2007. He also served as a defensive assistant at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri during the 2006 season and defensive line coach at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia during the 2005 season. Mapp graduated from James Madison University with a B.A. in English and a concentration in African American Literature. While at JMU, Mapp started at right tackle as a sophomore, but began coaching after a neck injury ended his playing career following the 2002 season. He served as JMU[apos]s assistant offensive line coach during the 2003 season before becoming assistant defensive line coach from August 2004 through July 2005.
