Sean Foster

Promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Sports Performance in September 2025, Sean Foster brings more than 15 years of experience in collegiate high-performance leadership to his role.

Foster re-joined Georgetown University in 2020 and most recently served as the director of sports performance and Head of Sports Science. In that role, he led the Department’s strategic expansion of data-driven performance systems, implementing technologies such as Catapult, Polar Team Pro, and VALD force plates across seven programs. He also oversaw all aspects of strength & conditioning and sports science support for men’s soccer—guiding a period that produced multiple future professional athletes, three BIG EAST Championships, a MAC Hermann Trophy winner and a College Cup appearance.

A leader in applied sports analytics, Foster partnered with Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business on a multi-year MBA capstone project to build advanced athlete monitoring dashboards, machine-learning tools and injury-prediction models using GPS and force-plate datasets. Additionally, he directed strength and power programming for the Hoya sprinters and jumpers, contributing to multiple BIG EAST Championship titles.

Before returning to Georgetown, Foster spent seven years at American University, serving as assistant athletic director for athletic performance. During his tenure, AU captured 12 Patriot League championships across the four sports he trained. Foster also launched the league’s first fueling station, guided major facility renovations and expanded the department’s sports science capabilities. He also taught undergraduate courses as an adjunct faculty member at American University from 2017–20.

From 2010–13, Foster had his first stint with Georgetown as an assistant sports performance coach, overseeing performance training for the nationally-ranked men’s soccer program, men’s lacrosse and volleyball, while assisting with the training of men’s basketball and football.

Foster holds a Master of Science in health promotion–exercise science from American University and a Bachelor of Science in health science from The Ohio State University. He has earned recognition as a Master Strength & Conditioning Coach (MSCC) from the CSCCa in 2023—the organization’s highest honor, along with certifications including CPSS (NSCA), SCCC (CSCCa), CSCS (NSCA), and USAW, and he is an approved mentor for the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association.

Foster resides in Maryland with his wife Danielle and children Emilia and Luca
