Ted Moon joined the Georgetown men’s lacrosse staff before the 2024 season with nearly 20 years of coaching experience. He works primarily with the faceoff specialists for the Hoyas.
In his second season with the Hoyas, Moon was instrumental in guiding Ross Prince to a standout rookie campaign, earning USILA Honorable Mention All-American honors as well as being named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, BIG EAST Co-Specialist of the Year, All-BIG EAST Second Team and selected to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Georgetown’s faceoff unit won .553 on the year with Prince going .630 at the dot.
2024 saw Moon take the reigns of the faceoffs specialists that won .525 as a group with James Ball winning .592 en route to USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
Moon comes to the Hilltop from Mount St. Mary’s after guiding the Mountaineer faceoff unit to the third highest win percentage in NCAA Division I competition. Under Moon’s tutelage, Connor Beals improved his win percentage from 47% in 2022 to 65% in 2023 to finish second in the nation while being named the 2023 MAAC Face Off Specialist of the Year and a unanimous All-MAAC selection.
Before the Mount, the Washington, D.C. area native coached at the highest level of high school lacrosse at stops at Georgetown Prep, Bishop O’Connell and Paul VI. While his primary focus has been working with the face off specialists at these schools and independently, he also coached midfielders and the riding/clearing game as well as serving as the primary author of opponent scouting reports.
The 2014 US Lacrosse Assistant Coach of the Year for the Washington, D.C. area, Moon has mentored 19 student-athletes who have gone on to play collegiately, mostly at the Division I level. He coached future Denver starter and 2015 National Championship team member Chris Hampton, Michigan’s Jack Olson and Matis Cole, Lehigh’s Johnny Kidd, St. Bonaventure’s Grant Giunchi, as well as Dickinson’s Bobby Hartwick who was a 2019 USILA Second Team All-American. Moon was on the coaching staff for Georgetown Prep for their 1993, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 IAC Championship teams and is the only coach to be part of the NHSLS championship teams with two different schools (Prep in 2013 and Paul VI in 2021).
Moon has also served as a coach and evaluator for several high school all-star games and tournaments such as the Under Armour All-America Games and Brine Nationals. He has been an evaluator for the DC area tryouts since 2011 and coached a Spotlight team the last three years. He was also one of the few high school coaches to be a presenter (“Finding & Developing the FOGO”) at the IMLCA Conference in 2018.
A 1989 graduate from Michigan, Moon was a midfielder when the Wolverines competed at the MCLA level, helping to capture three conference titles and being voted co-captain in 1988 along with future inaugural Michigan Division I head coach John Paul. Moon also holds an MBA from Notre Dame, graduating with honors in 1993.
A 30-year veteran in marketing, Moon is the Founder of Pathfinder Interactive LLC, a marketing consultancy and media buying agency, after stints at Sprint Nextel and Capital One leading their digital marketing efforts.
