Barbara Barnes has been with the Hoyas since the fall of 2008, she was promoted to assistant athletics director for communications in 2017. She came to the Hilltop from The Catholic University of America located in Northeast Washington, D.C. Barnes serves as the primary media contact for women's basketball, men's soccer, sailing and men's rowing at GU. Additionally, she is the sport administrator for the sailing program. Within the department, she oversees all communications efforts and runs GUHoyas.com as well as coordinating streaming and broadcast efforts. 

Barnes currently serves on both the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Commitee and is also a member of the NCAA East Region Academic Awards Committee. In her time at Georgetown, she has been the media coordinator for the 2013, 2019 and 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball East Regional while also running numerous other BIG EAST and NCAA events.

At CUA, Barnes was the director of athletic communications and sports information overseeing media relations duties for all 21 sports. She also launched and ran the university's athletic website and organized all student marketing activities. Barnes returns to the BIG EAST after serving as a media relations assistant in Villanova University's sports information office for one season. Prior to that, she worked as a game day production assistant with NFL Films and as a marketing assistant in Temple University's athletic department.

The Fort Atkinson, Wis., native received her bachelor's degree in public relations and social philosophy from Marquette University and a master's of education in sports and recreation administration from Temple University. During college, Barnes worked in Marquette's athletic office and with the Milwaukee Wave professional soccer organization.

Barnes and her husband, Devlin, reside in Northwest Washington, D.C., with their children, Jordan and Emily.
