WASHINGTON – Freddy Achecar III had three hits and three RBIs and
Jack Weeks was nearly perfect over 7.0 innings as the Georgetown University baseball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 7-4 win at Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 2-6 on the season, while the Shore falls to 1-6.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Weeks started and went a career-best 7.0 innings on the mound, allowing just one unearned run on a hit and two walks. He retired the first 16 batters of the game while the Hoyas built up a 5-0 lead.
- Miller Freeman retired all three batters he faced to record his first career save.
- Achecar led the GU offense with three RBI base hits.
- John Simourian also finished with three hits, including a double, while Eddie McCabe was on base three times and scored three runs.
- Tony Barreca had two hits and two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas got on the board quickly in the top of the first as a pair of walks, two errors and an RBI single by Achecar gave GU a 2-0 lead.
- Georgetown doubled the lead in the top of the fourth as safety squeeze bunts by Barreca and Simourian both produced runs.
- Achecar delivered his second RBI single in the fifth to score McCabe, who had reached on an error.
- The Shore got its first base runner with a one-out walk in the sixth inning, and scored an unearned run later in the frame.
- The Hoyas answered right back as McCabe doubled in the top of the seventh and scored on Achecar's third RBI hit to make it a 6-1 game.
- Three runs in the bottom of the eighth made it a 6-4 game.
- In the top of the ninth, Barreca delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to score Achecar and bring the lead back to three runs.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Freeman came on with the tying run at the plate and retired the next three batters to secure the 7-4 victory.
