Football All Time Records

Georgetown?s first football team took the field in 1887, beating Emerson Institute 46-6.
In the years that followed, Georgetown?s football program became known as one of the
best in the nation, with two bowl appearances in the 1940?s, marking the height of the
Hoyas? success.

But despite its successes on the field, rising costs and decreased fan support forced
Georgetown to discontinue its gridiron program in 1951.

In 1964, football returned to the Hilltop in the form of a low-budget, non-scholarship, club
program. The Hoyas improved their program to the point of reentering NCAA competition,
but this time at the Division III level in 1970. In 1993, Georgetown began a new era as it
started play at the Division I-AA level as a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
(MAAC).

The records section which follows includes Georgetown?s football records at the collegiate
level, with scores and other information included from Georgetown?s years at the major
college or university level. A separate record book at that level has also been kept.

Interestingly enough, the change in Georgetown?s playing level over the years makes it
one of only a handful of schools in the country eligible for records at the club, NCAA
Division I, II and III levels.
