Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to Broncs

Sophomore Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass.) was a triple winner, as the Georgetown University women's swimming and diving team defeated Rider University on Saturday, November 18, 141-102. The men's team fell to the Broncs, 136-107.

The Hoya women divers won both the one-meter and three-meter diving contests. Freshman Julia Bonilla (West Covina, Calif.) took first place in the three-meter (226.13) and the one-meter dive (228.08). Freshman Kathryn Harrison (Chatham, N.J.) earned runner-up honors in the three-meter dive (200.70) and took third place in the one-meter event (200.55).

The Georgetown women swept both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle events, taking first, second and third place. In the 1,000 free, Lauren Moynihan won with a time of 10:44.36, freshman Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished second with a time of 10:53.79 and freshman Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J.) placed third with a time of 11:02.89. Lauren Moynihan also won the 500 freestyle (5:16.55), with junior captain Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J.) earning runner-up honors (5:19.45) and Newman racing to a third-place finish (5:19.96).

The Hoya women won three additional races on the day. Moynihan won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.46 and sophomore Katy Hayes (Charlotesville, Va.) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.10. Sophomore Liz D'Auria (Newton, Mass.), junior captain Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn.), sophomore Erin Lenahan (Western Springs, Ill.) and Hayes combined to win the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.56.

Freshman Michael Kizer (Atlanta, Ga.) took second place in both the one-meter (204.08) and three-meter (186.83) diving events on the men's side. Sophomore Brett Daggett (Wauchula, Fla.) placed third in the three-meter with a score of 168.38.

The GU men raced to three first-place finishes at the meet. Junior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va.) won two individual events, earning first-place finishes in both the 50 freestyle (22.03) and the 100 freestyle (48.07). Lengle also combined with junior Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J.), sophomore Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y.) and senior Steve Brown (Newtown, Pa.) to win the 400 medley relay (3:38.15). The Hoyas earned runner-up honors in five additional events. Freshman Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan) placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.17), Evangelista swam to a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:02.19), Miller earned runner-up honors in the 500 freestyle (4:57.51) and Brown placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.12). Freshman Dan Connelly (Gladwyne, Pa.), sophomore Jim McLauglin (Plantsville, Conn.), Enters and Evangelista earned runner-up honors in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.00.

Georgetown's men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action again when they participate in the George Mason Invite on December 1-3, in Fairfax, Va.
