WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jamar Staples ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns as Georgetown beat Iona 43-14 on Saturday.
Ralph Saldiveri gained 118 yards for Iona (3-6), which has lost four straight games and five of six. The Gaels have dropped their last six games to Georgetown and have been outscored 158-16 over the past five.
Gharun Hester caught three passes for 104 yards for the Hoyas (4-5) and broke the school record for receiving yards on a 17-yard pass from Dave Paulus midway through the second quarter. He surpassed the mark of 2,817 yards set by Chris Murphy from 1989-92.
Aaron Brown scored twice for Georgetown.
The Hoyas rolled up 196 rushing yards in the first half, with 68 coming on two carries by Staples during their first scoring drive. Staples busted loose up the middle for 24 yards and a 6-0 lead with 11:11 left in the first quarter.
The first of two interceptions by Mike Turnamian set up 12-play, 97-yard drive that culminated in a 5-yard scamper by Staples with 6:01 remaining in the first half.
The Hoyas took a 20-0 lead less than three minutes later on an 18-yard touchdown run by Brown.
Rob Terry's 1-yard plunge 3:17 into the third quarter cut the lead to 20-7 and gave Iona its first touchdown against Georgetown since 1995.
Georgetown's Anthony Tuozzo responded with a 5-yard run with 9:00 to go in the period and Paulus threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Brown with 2:44 left in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Alex Fonti ran 10 yards for a touchdown and the Hoyas got a safety when Iona punter Spencer Callaghan mishandled a snap and kicked the ball out of the end zone for a 43-7 lead.
LeVar Stockton threw an 81-yard scoring pass to Kazmel Minott late in the fourth quarter.
