WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Georgetown University men's swimming and diving team improved its record with an impressive 147-87 victory over Providence on Saturday, January 27 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Georgetown men claimed the top three spots in the 800 meter freestyle event as Jim McLaughlin (So., Plantsville, Conn.), Brendan Daly (Sr., River Forest, Ill.) and Kevin Feder (Jr., Camarillo, Calif.) posted times of 9:04.95, 9:32.90 and 9:36.73, respectively. Other winners include Chris Lengle (Jr., Arlington, Va.) in the 200 free (1:59.39), Shodai Enters (Fr., Tokyo, Japan) in the 50 free (25.32), Richard Dennis (Sr., Waterville, Maine) in the 200 IM (2:20.16), Bryan Evangelista (So., Northport, N.Y.) in the 200 fly (2:18.23), Chris Lengle in the 100 free (54.62), and Jim McLaughlin in the 400 free (4:23.56). In addition, the relay team of Will Miller (Jr., Farmingdale, N.J.), Dennis, Evangelista, and Lengle won the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:09.41.
The Hoyas notched several other impressive swims on the day. Matt O'Connor (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) placed third in the 50 free (25.66), Michael Dowley (So., McLean, Va.) placed second in the 200 IM (2:22.25), Ross Savedge (So., Richmond, Va.) nabbed second in the 200 fly (2:20.15), Will Miller and Kevin Feder took the second and third spots in the 200 back event with times of 2:20.43 and 2:25.19, respectively, and Edmund Caulfield (Fr., Caldwell, N.J.) garnered third place honors in the 400 free. The relay team of Ryan Mrazik (So., Drexel Hill, Pa.), Steven Brown (Sr., Newtown, Pa.), Michael Weiss (Sr., Margate, N.J.), and Ross Savedge had an outstanding time of 4:16.57 in the 400 medley relay, finishing in second place.
Georgetown divers also turned in several solid performances on Saturday. Michael Kizer (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) was victorious in both 1 meter diving events with scores of 146.40 and 230.40. Brett Daggert (So., Wauchula, Fla.) claimed the third spot in both events with scores of 117.67 and 171.52.
The Hoyas next face Drexel University on Saturday, February 3 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
