Lewisburg, Pa. (October 20, 2001)-Bucknell scored four first quarter touchdowns and defeated Georgetown, 34-0. The Hoyas had their two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the Patriot League. With the win, Bucknell improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
The Bison scored on the first play from scrimmage when GU quarterback Sean Peterson (Gaithersburg. Md./Watkins Mill) was intercepted by Reed Tunison, who ran it back 29 yards for a score. The Bison then scored on their first three possessions to take a 27-0 lead after one quarter. They led 34-0 at intermission.
Georgetown's offense had trouble getting on track most of the day. The Bison defense held GU to just 28 yards rushing on 30 carries. The Hoyas moved the ball better in the second half, but turned the ball over twice in the fourth quarter.
The GU defense played much better in the second half and held Bucknell scoreless over the final 30 minutes. The Hoyas forced four second half turnovers, but could not turn them into points. GU freshman Byron Anderson (Montgomery Village, Md./DeMatha) and senior Ryan Cooper (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) each had an interception for the Hoyas. Sophomore Luke McArdle (Boxford, Mass./Phillips Academy) had 133 all-purpose yards for GU.
The Hoyas travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., next Saturday to face Marist in a non-conference game.
