Men's Swimming and Diving Victorious Over Delaware

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown's men's swimming and diving team hosted the final home meet of the 2000-2001 season this past Sunday and defeated Delaware, 135-108.

In their last home meet as Hoyas senior swimmers Richard Dennis (Waterville, Maine), Michael Weiss (Margate, N.J.), Steven Brown (Newtown, Pa.) and Brendan Daly (River Forest, Ill.) helped the Hoyas to the victory. Dennis won the 200 breaststroke (2:14.32), placed second in the 200 IM (2:04.38) and teamed up with Bryan Evangelista (So., Northport, N.Y.), Will Miller (Jr., Farmingdale, N.J.) and Chris Lengle (Jr., Arlington, Va.) to finish first in the 400 Medley Relay. Weiss finished fifth in the 200 free (1:52.75) and placed sixth in the 500 free (5:09.30). Brown placed in the 200 breaststroke, hitting the wall in third place (2:16.46). Daley completed the 200 butterfly in fifth place (2:19.65).

First place finishes were garnered by a host of GU swimmers. Mike Kizer won the three-meter diving competition with a 249.82 score and he won the one-meter competition (236.85). Lengle was the winner of the 50 freestyle (21.77) and of the 100 free (47.64). Ross Savedge (So., Richmond, Va.) edged the field in the 200 butterfly with a 2:04.47 time. In the final event of the meet the Hoya team of Shodai Enters (Fr., Tokyo, Japan), Jim McLaughlin (So., Plantsville, Conn.), Matt O'Connor (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) and Evangelista won the 400 freestyle relay.

Other swimmers placed highly during the meet as well. Enters finished second in both the 200 freestyle (1:47.21) and the 100 freestyle (49.57). McLaughlin had two second place finishes, swimming a 10:12.11 in the 1000 freestyle and a 4:57.39 in the 500 freestyle. Miller swam a 2:04.17 in the 200 backstroke to place second and also placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:49.72). In the diving competition, Brett Daggert (So., Wauchula, Fla.) took third in the one-meter competition (210.90). O'Conner placed third in the 50 freestyle (23.33) and Kevin Feder (Jr., Camarillo, Calif.) finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:07.70).
