The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming teams competed against Duquesne University on Saturday, January 12. The men dominated for the entire meet finishing with a 121-79 victory, while GU?s women lost 94-110.
Georgetown's men's team finished first in virtually every event and switched to exhibition part way through the meet. In the 400 Yard Medley Relay, Hoya seniors Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold High), Matt O?Connor (Phoenix, A.Z./Phoenix Country Day), Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va./Washington & Lee) and junior Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony?s) placed first with a time of 3:40.94. Freshman Brendan Griffin (Andover, Mass./St. John?s Prep) notched first place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle Event with a time of 10:10.22. Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary?s International) obtained first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle at 1:50.53, meanwhile senior Rob Johnston (Fairfax, Va./Flint High) finished third with a time of 1:55.72. Lengle recorded a time of 22.13 in the 50 Yard Freestyle event, while Kirill Choulga (Exter, N.H./Exeter Academy) took second place with a time of 23.34. Freshman Stephen Ferguson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum High) placed second and Griffin took third in the 200 Yard IM, with a 2:04.56 and 2:08.84 finish respectively. Junior Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, Conn./Southington High) captured first place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:00.0.
As for the women, Michelle Herd (Canton Center, Conn./Westminister), Diane Foglizzo (Rosemont, Pa./The Baldwin School), Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J./Morristown Beard) finished first in the 400 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 4:11.89. Junior Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley High) placed third in both the 1000 Yard Freestyle event and the 500 Yard Freestyle, with times of 10:56.49 and 5:26.86, respectively. Catherine Hayes (Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle High School) captured second in the 200 Yard Fly with a time of 2:18.68 and fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle finishing at 2:04.44. Foglizzo placed first in both the 200 Yard Breast Event and the 200 Yard IM at 2:33.78 and 2:17.11, respectively, while fellow freshman Herd obtained first in the 200 Yard Backstroke Event at 2:11.14.
Georgetown men's and women's swimming will be in action again on Saturday, January 19 when they take on St. Francis at home in a dual meet at 2 p.m.
