Box Score

Hamilton, N.Y. ? Georgetown?s football team played Colgate in wintry weather conditions today and fell to the first place Raiders 44-22 in front of 3,144 fans. With the loss the Hoyas? overall record drops to 4-6 and 1-5 in the Patriot League. Colgate is now 8-3 and 5-1 in conference match-ups.

Both teams played a scoreless first quarter. Georgetown and Colgate chewed up large chunks of time on subsequent possessions but turned the ball over on downs after marching into opponent?s territory. The second quarter proved to be the difference in the game as Colgate posted points on three straight series. The Raiders? Justin Polk capped an 11-play 68-yard drive with a three-yard run to open the game?s scoring. After a David Paulus (Manlius, N.Y./CBA) interception Colgate nailed a 23-yard field goal to go up 10-0. On the ensuing drive Colgate used a heavy dose of running back Ray LaMonica who ended the drive with a six-yard TD run.

Colgate came out of halftime and went 51 yards for another score putting the Hoyas in a 24-0 hole. On Colgate?s next drive the Hoyas grabbed some momentum after cornerback Tim Banks (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) picked off his fourth pass of the year. Georgetown hit pay dirt three plays later as Paulus found Walter Bowser (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) for 37 yards on first down and then found Luke McArdle (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) for a 33-yard touchdown toss on a deep pattern over the middle. Colgate replied with Polk?s second touchdown run of the day. Paulus then found Bowser and McArdle for over 30 yard strikes on consecutive plays and William Huisking (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) scored on a one-yard dive. Georgetown was down 31-14 as the third quarter expired.

The rushing yards continued to mount for the Raiders as they netted another rushing score three minutes into the fourth quarter. McArdle helped cut the Colgate lead to 17 after taking the kickoff 84 yards up the right sideline for a Hoya touchdown. Paulus then found Bowser on the two point try and GU was down two scores 37-22. LaMonica scored his third rushing score on the day to seal the Colgate victory 44-22.

Linebacker Andrew Clarke (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) who set a Georgetown single game record for total tackles with 23 and for solo stops with 15 led Georgetown?s defense. Fellow linebacker William Skultety (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast) made 12 tackles.

Paulus ended the day 18-of-29 for 248 yards including one touchdown and two interceptions. Bowser was his favorite target as he hauled in five catches for 114 yards. McArdle had four catches for 82 yards and one score.

Georgetown closes out the 2002 season with a Patriot League game at Towson next Saturday, November 22 at 12:30 p.m.
