Georgetown Swimming Competes in the 2002 Rutgers Invite

The Georgetown University men?s and women?s swimming and diving teams participated in the Rutgers University Invite at the Sonny Werblin Recreational Center on February 16. Because the meet was primarily for the purpose of qualifying swimmers for the BIG EAST Tournament, it was not scored.

In men?s action, Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va./Washington & Lee) qualified for a third event, the BIG EAST 200 Free, in addition to the 50 and 100 Freestyle and Relays. Other BIG EAST qualifiers include Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold), Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's), and Matt O?Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day), all as relay swimmers, and Mike Kizer (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) in the three meter dive.

In women?s action, Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) broke her own Georgetown record in the 500-meter Freestyle event (5:08.71) by one hundredth of a second, and will swim event in the BIG EAST Championships. Lauren also qualified for the BIG EAST in the 1650-meter Freestyle event. Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) also qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in both the 100 Fly and 100 Free and broke Georgetown records in both. Joining the Moynihans at the Championships will be Michelle Herd (Canton Center, Conn./Westminster) (100, 200 Backstroke) and Diane Foglizzo (Rosemont, Pa./The Baldwin School) (Relay) and 1 Meter divers Juliana Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./Covina) and Kathryn Harrison (Chatham, N.J./Hotchkiss).

The Hoyas will also be sending a number of swimmers to the ECAC Championships in Pittsburgh. Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J./Morristown Beard), Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) and Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J./Camden Central) will compete for the women and Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International), Edmund Caulfield (Caldwell, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), Steven Ferguson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum), Brendan Griffin (Andover, Mass./St. John's Prep), Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) and Brad Perez (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) will compete for the men.
