Box Score
Bethlehem, Pa. - The Hoyas traveled to Lehigh for their season opener, falling to the Mountain Hawks 69-0. Facing the third ranked I-AA program in the nation, Georgetown struggled to gain yards on offense and had trouble stopping Lehigh?s big plays. The offense was led by quarterback Morgan Booth (San Marino, Calif. / Pasadena Polytechnic) who finished the day with 106 yards passing but was sacked six times, mostly in the second half.
As one-sided as the statistics were, the Hoyas had opportunities to change the momentum of the game. In his first collegiate game, freshman Rocco Milazzotto (Dallas, Texas, Jesuit) intercepted a Lehigh pass on the Hoya 15 yard line ending a first quarter drive but the Hoyas were unable to mount an attack of their own on the next series. Penalties contributed to many of the Hoyas ills. An interception near their own goal line with the score 7-0 was nullified by an offside penalty leading to a Lehigh score on the next play. With the game still in hand in the second quarter a 42 yard run was called back on a holding call.
One of the most impressive players for the Hoyas was punter David Paulus (Manilus, N.Y. / CBA) who faced a persistent rush but averaged 46 yards on eight punts, helping to hobble Lehigh?s dangerous return game.
The next game for the Hoyas will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 14th when they host Holy Cross in their season opener on Harbin Field.
