The Skinny
Both Georgetown and Bucknell close out 12-game seasons today. The Hoyas (4-7; 1-5) snapped a two-game losing streak last weekend against Davidson. With a single league win in 2003 the Hoyas are one short of matching last season?s 2-5 conference mark. Bucknell has lost its past two games, 45-9 to Lehigh and 35-17 at Lafayette, and are 5-6 overall. The 2003 Bison have rebounded from a 2-9 record in 2002. Last season?s game between the institutions turned out to be GU?s first ever Patriot League victory as the Hoyas climbed out of a 17-0 hole to win 32-31 on a last second TD.
Georgetown?s offensive line took care of business for both the passing game and the rushing attack last weekend. The "O" line did not give up a sack for the first time this season and opened holes which allowed GU?s running backs to amass 395 yards, the most in a game since 1996. On defense GU picked off three passes and held the Davidson offense to 231 total yards and the running game to 21 yards. The defense totaled five sacks on the day and seven tackles for a loss.
GU?s rushing defense will be tested as Bucknell averages 234 yards on the ground and attempts an average of 51 rushes a game. Two players have over 150 attempts as tailback Blamah Sarnor leads the Bison with 187 attempts for 806 yards and quarterback Darius Wilson has 160 rushes for 667 yards. The Bison "D" is tops in the league for interceptions with 19 on the year.
You Should Know...
Luke McArdle broke the 1,000 yard barrier in receiving yards with 1,019. He is the first Hoya to go over 1,000 since current Assistant Coach Gharun Hester had 1,071 in 2000. McArdle stands 54 yards away from the GU single season record of 1,073 (Hester - 1999).
You Should Also Know...
The Hoya running game is averaging 154.1 yards a game, more than doubling last season?s 74.0 average. Marcus Slayton and John Sims combined have 1,188 yards.
