WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Patriot League today announced its All-League football teams. Georgetown placed three players on the teams, First Team wide receiver Luke McArdle (Sr., Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional (Phillips Academy)), and Second Team choices safety Matt Fronczke (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) and defensive end Michael Ononibaku (So., Amherst, Mass./Amherst). McArdle?s selection to the First Team marks the first time a Georgetown player has received that honor in the three seasons GU has participated in the Patriot League.
McArdle, one of four team captains, had the best single season receiving effort in Hoya history this year, with 1,118 yards. He was also the nation?s leader in all-purpose yards per game, averaging 184.6. On the year McArdle hauled in 63 passes for a 17.7 per catch average and scored 13 touchdowns. He completed his senior campaign second in the conference for receiving yards per game (101.6) and was fourth in receptions per game (5.73). He was invited to play in the TFN/Division I-AA All-Star Classic game on December 30, 2003 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Fronczke, a two-time team captain, earned his first all-league award after recording 85 tackles in 10 games of action in 2003. He finished tied for fifth in the Patriot League for tackles per game with an 8.5 average. Fronczke scored his career first touchdown this season returning an interception 52 yards against league foe Towson. In his career Fronczke registered 243 total tackles, including 158 solo stops, which ranks third all-time in Hoya history.
Ononibaku, a sophomore defensive end, led Georgetown in sacks with eight and totaled 14 tackles in the backfield. He ranked second in the Patriot League for sacks and placed fourth in tackles for a loss. He made a total of 50 stops on the year ranking him fourth on the Hoyas. He also nabbed his career first interception and forced a fumble. In his career Ononibaku has 10 sacks and 67 total tackles.
Georgetown completed its third season in the Patriot League with a 1-6 league record and a 4-8 overall mark. The 2004 season begins at home for Georgetown on Saturday, September 4th against St. Francis.
