The Skinny
Georgetown and Monmouth boast opposite records (GU 0-2, MU 2-0) and also have posted different results on each side of field. Georgetown?s offense is ranked 52nd in the nation for total yards (346.5) and posted 421 total yards last week at Holy Cross. Meanwhile Monmouth has the top ranked defense in all of Division I-AA, holding the opposition to only 200.5 yards, including an astounding 9.5 yards per game on the ground. The Hoyas? losses came against #24/25 Colgate (19-20) and last week?s upending at Holy Cross (34-42). Monmouth?s two victories came against St. Peter?s (24-0) and Robert Morris (17-10).
Georgetown?s offense came alive at Holy Cross, led by quarterback Andrew Crawford who threw for 298 yards and tossed four TD passes to wide out Luke McArdle. GU exploded for 20 points in the fourth quarter and the defense held Holy Cross off the scoreboard in the final 15 minutes. Running back Marcus Slayton piled on 106 yards for the game and the offense will look to continue its hot streak in today?s contest.
Monmouth?s defense has been the story in W. Long Branch, N.J. The Hawks have had one of the top five defenses in all the land the past four seasons, allowing only 262.97 per game over that period. Leading the charge is All-American linebacker Joe Sentipal who is 4.5 sacks away from being MU?s all-time leader.
