EASTON, Pa. ? The Georgetown swimming and diving program competed in a dual meet against Lafayette College Saturday in Easton, Pa. The women?s team nearly pulled off the win, but ultimately fell, 125-120, to the host Leopards. Meanwhile, the Georgetown men suffered a 135-83 defeat.
On the women?s side, freshmen claimed four of the Hoyas? seven first place finishes on the day. First-years McKay Elliott (Gaithersburg, Md./Georgetown Visitation), Mary Mason (Chicago, Ill./ St. Ignatius), Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) and Liz Nugent (Westport, Conn./The Hopkins School) all claimed victories in the pool, as well as sophomores (Cori Raffaelli (Oxnard, Calif./ Ventura College) and Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep). Senior Juliana Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./Covina High) followed her stellar effort last week in the one meter diving with another standout performance this week. Bonilla won the one meter competition again versus Lafayette, this time posting a mark of 231.15.
Freshman Terry Huang (S. Pasadena, Calif./Loyola) claimed both top finishes on men?s side, with first-place efforts in both the one a three meter diving competitions.
The teams will return to action this Saturday with their final home meet of the year. The meet, against Drexel, is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. in McCarthy Pool.
