WASHINGTON, D.C.?Georgetown swimming and diving hosted Delaware on Wednesday night in the first dual meet of the season. The Delaware women defeated the Georgetown women by a score of 141.5 to 101.5, while the Delaware men defeated the Georgetown men by a score of 139 to 102.
In swimming, the Hoya women were lead by junior Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep) who won two first place victories for the Hoyas. Amaro placed first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.16) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:11.53). Freshman Caitlin Colling (Monson, Ma/ Monson High) had an impressive night as well, finishing first in the 50 yard freestyle (25.52) and second in the 100 yard freestyle (55.35).
The men were lead by senior Peter Nguyen (North Potomac, Md.) who won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:05.24. Nguyen was also part of the 200 yard medley relay team composed of Ryan Barker (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth High), Brad Perez (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit High School) and Kevin Rieffel (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College High) who won in 1:41.74. Senior Michael Bayer (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished first for the Hoyas in the 50 yard freestyle, only beating his opponent by three hundredths of a second. In the 100 yard backstroke, Heath Walden (Scituate, Mass./Boston College High) claimed victory by a time of 56.26.
In diving action, the Hoya?s Kelcey Moore (Arlington, Va./ The Maderia School) earned two first place victories in both the 1meter (198.38), as well as tying for first in the 3 meter (499.20). On the men?s side, Santini Reali (Sarasota, Fla.) placed second in 1meter diving (179.93) and Doug Curran placed second in the 3meter dive (152.25).
Georgetown will next compete at Loyola College (Md.) on Saturday, October 23 at 1 p.m.
