The Skinny
It is Homecoming on the Hilltop and both the Hoyas and Keydets are hoping to snap losing streaks. After a 36-7 season opening win against St. Francis (Pa.) Georgetown has fallen in its past four contests. Meanwhile VMI has yet to win in 2004, losing its first five contests and with a season ending loss last season the Keydets are currently on a six-game slide. Last year?s 42-14 win by VMI in Lexington, Virginia was the first time the two programs had faced each other since 1910. The overall series favors the Hoyas 5-1, with four of the five wins coming over a century ago and the other coming in the 1910 season.

Georgetown?s defense has been an aggressive unit thus far in 2004. Last week the Hoyas created six turnovers against Bucknell and helped cause the Bison to fumble the pigskin eight times. The defense scored 12 of GU?s 19 points with two interception returns for TDs and set up the Hoyas? first TD with a fumble recovery on the Bison?s two. On the season the Hoya "D" has caused 15 turnovers, which ranks tied for 11th in the nation with 13 of those TOs occurring in GU?s three home games. The ball hawks have been Maurice Banks and Mikey Blainefield with two picks each and Christopher Paulus with three fumble recoveries.

VMI was well on its way to a victory last week at Charleston Southern, leading 24-3 with 12:50 to play but 22 unanswered points by the Bucs resulted in VMI losing 25-24. Junior Sean Mizzer who last game eclipsed the 2,000-career rushing yards mark and recorded his 11th 100-yard rushing game leads the Keydets.
