WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Three Georgetown University football student-athletes were named to the 2004 Patriot League All-League teams. Junior defensive end Michael Ononibaku (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) was named First Team after earning Second Team honors last season. Junior safety Maurice Banks (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) and sophomore defensive end Alex Buzbee (Chester, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) were both honored with Second Team accolades.
Ononibaku ended the 2004 season as the Patriot League's leader in tackles for loss with 1.68 per game and tied for the league lead in total sacks with 10.5. Ononibaku also currently ranks tied for eighth in the nation in both sacks and tackles for loss. He finished the season third on the Hoyas in tackles with 64, tops in tackles for loss with 18.5 and tied for the team lead with Buzbee in sacks. Ononibaku recorded two interceptions this season and returned one back for a score at Fordham. He ranks fifth all-time at Georgetown in sacks with 20.5 which also ranks 16th in league history.
Banks completed his third season as Georgetown's leader in interceptions with four and placed fourth on the team in tackles with 53. His four interceptions tied for third in the league. In his career Banks has recorded 109 tackles and has five interceptions to his credit. Banks returned one interception against Bucknell 11 yards for his career first score.
As a sophomore Buzbee tied with Ononibaku for the league and team in lead in sacks with 10.5. He finished the year with 12.5 tackles for loss, which placed him fourth in the conference and totaled 39 tackles. Buzbee forced two fumbles on the season and has 15.5 sacks in his career, which places him sixth in Hoya history.
