Dec. 7, 2005
Washington, D.C. - Georgetown men's cross country head coach Pat Henner and senior runner Fleet Hower (Marion, Va./Marion) were both honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their success in the 2005 fall cross country season. Henner was named Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, while Hower earned Mid-Atlantic Men's Athlete of the Year honors.
Henner led the Hoya men's cross country team to a No. 9 ranking in the final NCAA Division I National poll. Georgetown ended the season with a 16th place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championship in late November. The Hoyas qualified for their seventh-straight NCAA Championship with a first place finish at the Mid-Atlantic regional, just after a second place finish in the BIG EAST Championships. They began the fall with wins at the Great Meadows and Paul Short Invitationals, followed by a third-place showing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals.
Hower completed his senior cross country season in grand fashion, earning All-American honors at the NCAA Championships with his 26th place finish. The majority of the team's success at the Mid-Atlantic and BIG EAST Championships were based on Hower's performances, as he won the Mid-Atlantic regional and placed fourth at the BIG EAST Championship.
