WASHINGTON, DC - Football student-athlete David Fajgenbaum (So., Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) was today announced as the recipient of Georgetown University's 2005 McTighe Prize. The McTighe Prize is named in honor of Dr. Thomas P. McTighe, now deceased, who was a faculty member at Georgetown for over 40 years and former chair of the Philosophy Department.
The McTighe prize is awarded each year by the New Student Convocation Committee to an outstanding undergraduate who has demonstrated superior achievement in scholarship and service. In addition, the applicant must submit an essay, which highlights the University's commitment to academic excellence, diversity, personal responsibility and the ideals of a Catholic and Jesuit education. This essay forms the basis of a student welcome speech, which the awardee delivers to the incoming first year students at New Student Convocation.
Fajgenbaum is a two-year varsity letterman at quarterback on Georgetown's Patriot League football team. He is a member of the Class of 2007 and is majoring in human sciences in the School of Nursing & Health Studies. Fajgenbaum was named to the Patriot League's Academic Honor Roll in both 2003 and 2004.
