Washington, DC - Head Coach Bob Benson has named junior Nick Cangelosi (Camden, NJ) the starting quarterback for the upcoming Hoya football season. The transfer from North Carolina was informed Thursday night at the team meeting that he would be behind center for the team's season opener on Saturday, September 3 at Patriot League rival Bucknell.
Cangelosi, who arrived at the Hilltop prior to the preseason last season, saw time in only one game as he became adjusted to a new system and new surroundings. Prior to committing to North Carolina, he was a standout athlete at Camden Catholic, finishing his senior season as the No. 1 ranked quarterback in the state of New Jersey. In addition, he was named a PrepStars All-American as he totaled 2,190 yards and 25 touchdowns his final year. For his success on the football field, along with the basketball court, where he scored over 1,300 points in his career and ranks third all-time at his school, Cangelosi was named the Courier-Press' Male Athlete of the Year in 2002.
Cangelosi and the Hoyas will kick-off the 2005 season as they travel to Bucknell on Saturday, September 3 to face the Bison at 6 p.m.
