Quick Start
Georgetown and Bucknell open their respective 2005 seasons, as the Hoyas travel to Lewisburg for Saturday's Partiot League contest. Both schools have a point to prove in the league, as Bucknell was picked fifth and Georgetown seventh in the seven-team preseason poll.
The Hoyas are coming off a winless Patriot League campaign, having gone 0-6 against league opponents and 3-8 overall. Meanwhile, the Bison hope to build off a third place finish in the conference last season, in which they went 4-2 in the league and 7-4 overall. The Bison carry a four-game winning streak into the night. Bucknell is home of the preseason Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Year in Sean Conover and Dante Ross, respectively.
Conover and Georgetown senior Michael Ononibaku represent two of the best defensive linemen in Division I-AA, as both have been named to multiple preseason All-American ballots. The two tied for the Patriot League lead in sacks with 10.5, sharing the top spot with another Hoya, Alex Buzbee.
Both teams will be starting new quarterbacks, as Nick Cangelosi and Terrance Wilson make their first collegiate starts. Cangelosi, a transfer from North Carolina, saw action in only one game last season after arrive at the Hilltop before preseason. Wilson, a starter for the Bucknell junior varsity team last season, has big shoes to fill as he replaces all-league first team selection Daris Wilson.
In a rivalry that dates back over 100 years, the Bison lead the all-time series 9-7-1, having won the last two meetings, including a 35-19 victory at Harbin Field last October.
Georgetown is 19-16 in season openers since returning to the NCAA ranks in 1970. Head coach Bob Benson evened his mark in openers at 6-6 with a 36-7 victory over St. Francis (PA) last season.
