Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University cross country program took part in the Pre-Nationals on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. In the event featuring over 170 combined teams and 46 of the top 60 programs in the country, split between a Blue and a White race, the Hoya men placed fifth in the Blue race, while the women were eighth in the White.
The men were fifth in the Blue race, featuring 36 schools. Colorado took the team title with 75 points, followed by Florida State (141), NC State (152), UC Santa Barbara (229) and the Hoyas (274). Providence's Martin Fagan was the individual leader, finishing in a time of 23:30.3.
Redshirt freshman Andrew Bumbalough (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) was the top finisher for Georgetown with a 12th place showing (23:59). Junior Matt Debole (Winston-Salem, N.C./Tabor Academy) was 48th in 24:28, followed by Justin Schied (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII), Michael Banks (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and Brian Dalpiaz (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) as the Hoya top-five.
The women were eighth in the 37 school White race, which featured three of the top five teams in the country. NC State won the team race with 117 points, followed by Michigan and Wisconsin who were tied at 176. Julia Lucas of NC State took the individual crown in 20:01.4.
The Hoyas, who had 294 points, were led by junior Elizabeth Maloy, (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names) who finished in 10th place with a time of 20:28.5. Classmate Melissa Grelli (Cupertino, Calif./Presentation) continued her strong fall season, crossing in 18th at 20:38.6. Juniors Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont), Joanna Rodgers (Fairfax, Va./J.W. Robinson/North Carolina State University) and Jennie Funk (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City) rounded out the scorers for Georgetown.
