Buzbee, Craft Named to Patriot League Weekly Honor Roll

Oct. 17, 2006

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University football players Alex Buzbee (Chester, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and Brent Craft (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School) were named to the Patriot League Weekly Honor Roll as a result of their performances in last weekend's games.

It was the second-straight week Buzbee has been named to the honor roll, while it is the first career selection for Craft.

Buzbee, a senior co-captain and defensive end, matched his career-high with 12 tackles in last week's 17-7 home loss to Bucknell. He had one tackle-for-loss and broke up a pass during the game. A two-time All-Patriot League selection, Buzbee leads the conference in tackles-for-loss (9.0) and is second in the league with 3.5 sacks. Buzbee's average of 1.29 tackles-for-loss per game ranks 36th among NCAA leaders

His team-leading 3.5 sacks gave him 25.5 for his career, which ranks third all-time at Georgetown. He is 2.5 behind Michael Ononibaku (2002-05), who is second all-time with 28. The Hoyas' all-time leader is Janne Kouri (1993-96), who had 31.5 career sacks.

Craft, a junior slot receiver, caught a career-high 11 passes for 72 yards in the team's loss last weekend. Craft has been a favorite target for Georgetown quarterbacks, leading the team in receptions (36) and yards (316), while scoring two touchdowns. Craft, whose twin brother Darren is a defensive back for the Hoyas, is second in the Patriot League in receptions per game (5.29) and eighth in the conference in yards per game (46.2). In addition, Craft ranks 32nd nationally in receptions per game.

Senior linebacker Chris Paulus (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers) leads the team and is third in the Patriot League in tackles with 69 overall, a 9.9 per game average. Paulus, who ranks 24th nationally in tackles per game, is one of seven Georgetown players among the top-20 in the conference in tackles.

Buzbee is ninth in the league (54 total, 7.7 per game), followed by senior Derek Franks (Austin, Texas/Reagan), who ranks 10th with 48 tackles (6.9 per game) and junior Mike Greene (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep), who is 11th with 46 tackles (6.8 per game).

Junior Stephen Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) is 17th in the league with 6.1 tackles per game (43 overall), senior Brian Tandy (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) is 18th, averaging 6.0 per game (42 total) and junior Kevin Cherepski (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) is 20th with 40 tackles (5.7 per game).

Sophomore wide receiver Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) leads the Hoyas in kick return yardage, averaging 24.5 yards per return (24 for 588), which ranks 24th nationally. Mitchell is third in the Patriot League in all-purpose yardage, with 102.0 yards per game (117 receiving, 588 kick returns).

Georgetown, 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Patriot League, does not play this weekend. The Hoyas return to action on Saturday, October 28, when they visit Charleston Southern.
