Washington, D.C. - Eight members of the Georgetown University cross country teams were recognized for their accomplishments at last weekend's NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region Championship by earning All-Mid Atlantic Region honors.
Sophomores Matt Debole (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor), Justin Scheid (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII), and Michael Banks (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional), redshirt freshman Levi Miller (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) and senior Andre LaBoy (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) took home the awards on the men's side. DeBole paced the Hoyas to the Mid-Atlantic Region title for the third-straight year, finishing second overall (30:18.8), while Miller rounded out the top-10 (30:44.5). Scheid, Banks and Laboy finished in succession, placing 16th, 17th and 18th.
Juniors Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names), Melissa Grilli (Cupertino, Calif./Presentation) and Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) earned the all-region honors in helping the Hoyas to a second place team finish for the women. Maloy (20:31.8) and Grelli (20:37.1) continued to run among the best in the country, placing second and third, while Infeld (21:10.9) was 15th.
In addition, with their first place finish, the men's squad climbed to No. 13 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll, their highest ranking of the season. Meanwhile, the women slipped three spots to No. 15.
Georgetown departs Friday for the NCAA Division I National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., which take place on Monday, November 20 with the women's race beginning at noon and the men following at 1:15 p.m. The Hoyas will also be represented this weekend at the ECAC and IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. on Saturday morning.
