Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown track & field team winds down the 2006 indoor season this weekend at the ECAC and IC4A Championships on Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5 in Boston, Mass. In addition, the Hoyas will have a small contingency at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Friday and Saturday.
The women's squad looks to build off their second place finish two weekends ago at the BIG EAST Championships, as they take part in the ECAC Championship at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. Events begin on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with freshman Buky Bamigboye (Brentwood, Tenn./University School) starting competition in the Pentathlon.
The women look to defend their 2005 ECAC title in the distance medley relay, an event that they had also won two weeks ago at the BIG EAST Championships. Junior Nana Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and freshman Christine Whalen (Los Gatos, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) highlight the individual events as they are coming off a 1-2 finish in the 800m at the BIG EAST. Last year, the Hoyas placed fifth behind conference foe, Pittsburgh.
The men will be split between the IC4A's at Boston University and the Alex Wilson Invite, hosted by Notre Dame.
At the Alex Wilson, seniors Chris Bonner (Weston, Mass./Xaverian Brothers), Tommy Manning (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) and Rod Koborsi (Houston, Texas/Jersey Village), along with sophomore Matt Debole (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) will combine to try and post an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the distance medley relay, improving on the current Hoya provisional time of 9:43.56. The DMR race is scheduled to begin on Friday at 8:15 p.m. On Saturday, Manning will also compete in the 800m and mile races, Debole in the mile and 3000m, Bonner in the 800m and Koborsi in the 3000m.
At the IC4A's, competition is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday for the Hoyas, as the Georgetown men looks to improve on its sixth place showing in last year's IC4A's and its seventh place finish at the BIG EAST.
