Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University football team will finish off its three-game road trip Saturday afternoon, September 30, in Hamilton, N.Y. against Patriot League rival Colgate. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Andy Kerr Stadium. The game will be broadcast on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) on a tape-delayed basis at 3:30 p.m., following a game between Navy and Connecticut. Georgetown enters Saturday's game with a 1-3 record after losing to Columbia, 23-21, last weekend, their second straight loss to an Ivy League opponent. Georgetown enters the game with a record of 1-3 overall and a 0-1 record in the Patriot League. Colgate, coming off a 17-12 loss at home to Monmouth last weekend, has a record of 1-2.
This will be the fifth meeting between Colgate and Georgetown, with the Raiders having won all four of the previous meetings. The last meeting between the two was November 19, 2005, and the outcome saw Colgate leave with a 34-7 victory.
Senior linebacker Chris Paulus (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) leads the team, and is second in the Patriot League, with 42 tackles. Senior defensive back Derek Franks (Austin, Texas/Reagan) is second on the squad with 33 tackles and senior Stephen Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) is third with 30. Senior defensive end Alex Buzbee (Chester, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) has 22 tackles and a team-high 4.0 sacks. The Hoyas are third in the league in passing offense (188.0 per game), sixth in rushing offense (100.2/game) and sixth in total offense (288.2). The defense ranks third in the league in rushing defense, allowing 140.2 yards per game. The unit is sixth in the league in passing defense (208.0/game) and sixth in total defense (348.2/game).
Junior quarterback Matt Bassuener, (Port Edwards, Wis./John Edwards-Western Reserve Acad.) who was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week last Monday, will make his first career start at Colgate. He has come on in a reserve role the last two weeks, completing 79.1 percent of his passes (34-of-43) for 312 yards and five scores. Last week, he completed 17-of-22 passes for 177 yards and three scores, while running eight times for 52 yards. GU quarterbacks have thrown passes to 13 different receivers this year, with junior Brent Craft (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin) catching 20 passes and junior Jasper Ihezie (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) grabbing 10. Craft is second in the Patriot League in catches per game (5.0). The Hoyas ran for a season-high 177 yards last week and are averaging 100.2 per game. Junior Erik Carter (Bowie, Md./Good Counsel) leads the team with 86 yards, while classmate Emir Davis (Trenton, N.J./Hun) has gained 83 yards.
