Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University indoor track & field team wrapped up its final event before next weekend's BIG EAST Championship on Saturday, concluding action at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup in State College, Pa.
Redshirt junior Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names) won the women's mile race, qualifying for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships with a time of 4:51.79. Freshman Kelsey Malmquist (Williston Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) ran a season-best time of 5:03.00, placing seventh.
For the men, freshman Kelvin Hill (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) qualified for the IC4As in the 800m, crossing in 1:53.38 for 12th place.
In the women's 400m, senior Jayne Penn (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) was 16th, but ran an ECAC time of 56.73. Freshman Amanda Walsh (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) also had a low finish in the 3000m, but qualified for next weekend's championship in 10:13.28.
The Hoyas also had an entry in the women's 4x400m relay, finishing in 10th with an ECAC time of 3:52.09.
In other action on Saturday, graduate student Fleet Hower (Marion, Va./Marion) ran in the 5000m race at the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington. Hower posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 14:01.45 to place 12th overall, a time that is also a top-15 all-time mark in Georgetown history.
Competition begins at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship on Saturday, February 17 in Akron, Ohio.
