Annapolis, Md. - Annapolis, Md. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team fell, 6-1 to Navy on Saturday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis, Md. The Hoyas took the Midshipmen into three sets in the third, fourth and fifth doubles positions, but were unable to record a win.
Sophomores Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) and Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) held a 6-3 advantage over Navy's Ramsey Lemaich and Alex James with the doubles point hanging in the balance, but Tan and Lowell were unable to hang on, as the Midshipmen came back to capture the match and the point. Senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and sophomore David Tillem defeated Navy's Jason Hill and Nick Birger, 8-5 in the third doubles position for the blue and gray's lone doubles victory.
Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn), the regions No. 25 player, was pitted against the region's No. 24 player, in Nate Helms in the top singles match. Though Helms held rank, defeating Schnell, 6-2, 6-2.
Tan earned a point for the Hoyas, defeating John Waters, 6-3, 6-2 in the second doubles match, but the momentum was not able to carry over. Tywang fell to Owen Bullard, 7-5, 6-3 and Tillem, who rushed out to a one set lead against James, fell, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, as the Midshipmen clinched the win with that victory.
