Georgetown Football Will Celebrate Senior Day on Saturday

Nov. 7, 2008

The Georgetown University football team will host Marist for its last home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Hoyas will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, honoring 14 seniors. Kickoff at the Multi-Sport Field is slated for 12:30 p.m.

Georgetown enters the game with a 1-7 overall record and a 0-4 mark in the Patriot League, while the Red Foxes are 3-6 overall. The game against Marist can be seen through a live video feed on the Georgetown Athletics website - www.guhoyas.com - with Chuck Timanus and Mike Vailancourt providing all of the action on HoyaVision.

Prior to kickoff, the football program will honor its 14 senior players with a pregame ceremony. Head Coach Kevin Kelly will welcome each of the seniors and their families to thank them for their hard work and sacrifices during their careers. The seniors to be honored include: offensive lineman Tom Amaro (Shreveport La./Loyola College Prep), defensive lineman Anthony DiTommaso (Short Hills, N.J./ Seton Hall Prep), running back Dean Duchak (Mahwah, N.J./St. Joseph's), defensive end Ataefiok Etukeren (Litchfield Park, Ariz./The Lawrenceville School [N.J.]), wide receiver Anthony Homsey (Oakdale, Conn./Montville), tight end Colin Meador (Lyndhurst, Ohio/St. Ignatius Prep), slot Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake), defensive back Justin Moore (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit), quarterback Brian Newman (New York, N.Y./Stuyvesant), defensive back Chris Parker (Stone Mountain, Ga./Tucker), defensive back Torre Soderlund (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal), wide receiver Brent Tomlinson (Hoffman Estates, Ill./St. Viator), defensive lineman Nick Umar (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery), and defensive lineman Travis Zorrilla (Lynn, Mass./ St. John's Prep).

The Hoyas are coming off a loss to Patriot League rival Lehigh. Saturday's game will be the second home game in a row, and last of the season. The Blue & Gray opened the 2008 season on Sept. 7 with a 12-7 win over Howard in the Inaugural D.C. Cup, but have lost their last seven games.

Marist is coming off a 45-21 loss to Fordham last weekend. The Red Foxes game against Fordham was its third Patriot League opponent of the season. They also played Lafayette and Bucknell earlier in the season, losing both contests. Marist lost five of its first six games, but has rebounded to win two of its last three.

On the offensive side, sophomore quarterback Keerome Lawrence (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) and freshman quarterback James Brady (Melville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) will lead the team. Lawrence leads the team in rushing with 100 carries for 377 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 45-of-83 for 362 yards. Lawrence ran for 57 yards and threw for 106 yards and a touchdown last Saturday against Lehigh. Brady, meanwhile, has completed 75-of-142 passes for 690 yards and three touchdowns.

Georgetown quarterbacks have completed passes to 21 different players this season. Freshman Keion Wade (East Orange, N.J./East Orange) added to his team lead in receptions (22) last week by catching three passes. He now has caught 22 passes on the season. Senior tight end Collin Meador (Lyndhurst, Ohio/St. Ignatius Prep) has 18 catches for 218 yards and two touchdowns.

Senior slot Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) is sixth in the Patriot League in all-purpose yardage per game, averaging 103.9 yards. He has caught 16 passes for 237 yards this season and returned 27 kicks for 573 yards. Mitchell ranks 12th nationally in kickoff return yards, averaging 64.8 per game.

Three Georgetown defensive players rank among the top 10 in the Patriot League, led by junior defensive back Chris Rau (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) who is sixth, averaging 7.9 tackles per game. Junior Travis Mack (West Chester, Pa./The Hill School) is tied with Rau for the team lead in tackles with 55 overall and is 10th in the league, averaging 6.9 per game, while sophomore Nick Parrish (Irving, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) is third on the team with 54 stops, and is seventh in the Patriot League, averaging 7.7.

Senior defensive end Ataefiok Etukeren (Phoenix, Ariz./The Lawrenceville School [N.J.]) is fourth on the team in tackles (44), and leads the team in tackles-for-loss (11) and sacks (4.5). Etukeren is second in the Patriot League in tackles-for-loss and is tied for third in the league in sacks.
